Language Revitalization Specialist

The Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) is seeking a highly-motivated individual to fill the position of Language Revitalization Specialist.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Language Revitalization Specialist manages and coordinates Gwich’in Language preservation and revitalization projects and initiatives aimed at keeping the spoken Gwich’in language alive and ensuring the transfer of the language to future generations. The Language Specialist will utilize the most current and effective approaches in language development and promotion, project management, and linguistics to promote, preserve, revitalize, and support the Gwich’in Language. 

The ideal applicant would have a Degree in Linguistics, Education, or a related field, speaks a second language, and has five years of related experience including material and curriculum development, program delivery, project management, and mentoring others. Gwich’in language fluency as well as experience working on language maintenance and revitalization strategies are considered assets. Equivalencies may be considered.

Salary is $75,000 plus a generous benefits package which includes allowances of $20,000 per annum as well as health, dental, short and long term disability, life insurance, and generous leave entitlements.
