The Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) is seeking a highly-motivated individual to fill the position of Director of Human Resources in Inuvik, NT.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position is responsible for designing and implementing Human Resources (HR) programs, leading and overseeing all HR functions, and providing strategic HR planning and advice to the organization and its leaders.
Specific responsibilities include leading and assisting with the delivery of HR functions, including recruitment and retention, onboarding, HR policies and processes, training and development, performance management and performance reviews, employee relations, HR records management and reporting, workforce and succession planning, HR compliance and risk management, organizational design, and compensation and benefits. This position is responsible for setting and executing GTC’s HR Strategic Plans, providing HR advice, developing HR programs to meet organizational needs, and supervising one HR Officer. The role also leads the Gwich’in Internship Pilot Project (GIPP), a collaborative program in partnership with the Territorial and Federal governments focused on enhancing the skills of Gwich’in Participants through on-the-job training.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field, a Chartered Human Resources Professional (CPHR) designation, and a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in the field of Human Resources. Supervisory experience is required, as well as strong mentorship and interpersonal abilities. Experience in designing HR programs, career coaching, and working with Indigenous communities would be considered assets. Equivalencies may be considered.
