GSC Business Scholarship

The Gwich’in Settlement Corporation (GSC) is pleased to announce the creation of a Business Scholarship.  This will provide two (2) registered Gwich’in participants enrolled in a post-secondary business program – with preference in Commerce, Management, Accounting or Finance - an annual scholarship in the amount of $2,500.00 per year.

One (1) of the selected recipients will also have the opportunity to sit in an ex-officio (non-voting) capacity on the GSC Board of Directors. The purpose is to provide board experience, mentorship and knowledge of the GSC activities. Travel expenses, accommodations and honoraria will be provided in addition to the award of the annual scholarship.

GSC invests and administers the capital transfer funds paid to the Gwich’in by the Government of Canada from 1992 to 2007, pursuant to the finalization of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement (GCLCA) in 1992.  As of March 2019, GSC has over $130 million in assets, which is used to carry out the activities outlined by Chapter 11 of the GCLCA.  GSC was established for the benefit of current and future generations of Gwich’in participants and was incorporated under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act on December 22, 1992. 

The ideal applicant will be a Gwich’in participant with:

  • Demonstrated Gwich’in values;
  • A strong academic record;
  • Registered full-time in a post-secondary business program – with preference to Commerce, Management, Accounting or Finance; and,
  • Availability to attend 1 or 2 day GSC Board Meetings November/December, March/April or Summer.
